Business, Ideas, and MouseMingle

For many years I’ve said that social platforms are for social networking, while LinkedIn is for business networking. And while I’ve preached that for a very long time, I haven’t always practiced it. I’ve relied on my personal network and phone calls. However wonderful my network is, they are either sick of me, have golden handcuffs, or just aren’t interested in business the way I am. Ben Franklin created the “Junto” when he was a printer (also called the leather apron club,) so that like-minded people could sit …

Why I moved to Marceline, Missouri

I grew up in Southern California, and spent a lot of time at Disneyland as a kid. After spending many years in software development at places like Microsoft and Sony, I started my own technical consulting business, which gave me the flexibility to work at Disneyland for fun as an adult. During my time at the Park, I was an attractions host, then I worked in Guest Relations, where I became a Tour Guide, giving the 3.5 hour “Walk in Walt’s Footsteps” history tour of Disneyland. I studied …

Dr. Ben Franklin or: How I Learned to Ignore Lazy Entrepreneurs and Love the Email Address

I’ve been searching for a local or regional marketing consultant to hire, to put together a marketing plan. It should be a giant red flag if a MARKETING CONSULTANT doesn’t know how to market themselves… …

If It’s Not Their Idea, It’s Bad

Sometimes, I’m still amazed when “business people” (or those who claim to be professionals) dismiss good, or logical ideas without a reasonable or acceptable answer. I SHOULDN’T be surprised, because a lot of people are driven by their own need to be important. Over the years, I’ve seen it many times, and I have no problem admitting that sometimes those ‘leaders’ have information they can’t share, which makes their decision appear to be a poor one. I think more often though, those bad decisions come from their thinking …

Reverse Trick-or-Treat

Today, November 1st – the day AFTER Halloween, a thought occurred to me on how to be a better neighbor – using Halloween as a tool… “Reverse Trick-or-Treat.” Since many people are use to having random people knock on their door on Halloween afternoon/evening/night, why not go knocking on doors to GIVE candy or treats to your neighbors, along with a note about yourself, and your contact information. Many people either don’t make the time to get to know their neighbors, or maybe the neighbors just aren’t social… …
