Reverse Trick-or-Treat

Reverse Trick-or-Treat | DaveTavres.comToday, November 1st – the day AFTER Halloween, a thought occurred to me on how to be a better neighbor – using Halloween as a tool… “Reverse Trick-or-Treat.”

Since many people are use to having random people knock on their door on Halloween afternoon/evening/night, why not go knocking on doors to GIVE candy or treats to your neighbors, along with a note about yourself, and your contact information. Many people either don’t make the time to get to know their neighbors, or maybe the neighbors just aren’t social… so knocking on their door on a random Tuesday night might be uncomfortable for them, or they might not be home, or they just might not be ready to talk to someone because they’re in the middle of making dinner or watching their favorite TV show. But… on Halloween night, most people know that you just order a pizza, and play Ghostbusters (1984) while you wait for the doorbell to ring so you can hand out candy.

What a fun way to make a connection with someone… knocking on THEIR door and giving THEM candy, and sharing a message of friendship. I honestly don’t recall ever hearing or reading of this idea before – but I’m sure I’m not the first to think of it. The sad thing is, I have to wait a whole year to try it. And so, I just set a reminder for October 29th, to put together note about myself, my email address and phone number, and to either buy candy or bake some cookies. I’m already looking forward to it.
